Tailrace Community offers a range of events every year that are all designed to positively impact those who attend.
The events include:
The Enchanted Evening has been offered for over 10 years on the Friday evening before Mothers Day to the young girls of our city. Every year over 100 volunteers come together to make this a special event for the young princesses who come along to not only experience a great time but receive positive messages about their identity and their potential.
The Warrior Night happens every year for boys, usually in January when it’s nice and warm. That’s important because the boys are divided into tribes and have a range of trial games, some indoors and some outdoors, as well as receiving positive messages about their identity and their potential.
Every February (for about 15 years) we have run Kids Programmes at Festivale, Launceston’s premier food, wine and entertainment festival.
Our Date Nights are another special occasion that we offer to mums and dads on the last Friday night of most months.
Here in our restaurant, we offer a choice of beautiful 3 course means whilst the kids are looked after by Tailrace Community volunteers on premises in Kids Paradise, so that their parents can have a child free time together.
We do this because a point where many marriages break down is after the birth of the second child, so we want to make a convenient and affordable space for mums and dads to have special adult time as husband and wife.
Date Nights are a part of our commitment to positively strengthening marriages and families.
We also offer the fabulously popular School Holiday Program in Kids Paradise every school holidays where kids have a full on time that they don’t want to leave.
During school term, we run Playgroups every Wednesday morning, and Soul Care, a special time for women on Tuesday mornings whilst the children are looked after in Kids Paradise.
On Friday nights during school terms, Tailrace Youth happens. This is a high energy and fun time for youth to connect with each other and with God. Tailrace Youth then feeds into the high fun, high impact Youth Camps that we hold annually.
For men, we hold regular Men’s Breakfasts on a Saturday morning in our cafe / restaurant. No agenda, no speaker, just a time for men to connect with each other over breakfast.
To celebrate friendship and community, we regularly hold community events such as our Long Table Feasts. They are a great way to connect around the table with old friends and new and are open to anyone and everyone to attend.
We regularly run CAP Money Courses for people who have financial challenges (who doesn’t have!), to help them get on top of their finances so that their finances serve their dreams, rather than the other way around.
In addition to the CAP Money Courses, we frequently put on a range of workshops to help people in the very practical issues that we all face, such as those relating to Relationships, Parenting and Emotional Health.
For those wanting to grow in their faith, we regularly have a range of Training and Equipping Workshops that we offer.
Also there is a range of Small Groups that are offered throughout school term, where you can connect with others as well as journey deeper in the Christian faith. We offer groups for seekers and sceptics as well as for people who have been followers of Jesus for decades.
We also conduct Sunday Services @ 10am every Sunday for those who want to discover a faith that works or who want to grow in their faith.
We are Tailrace Community, and we are a people who offer an ever changing range of events and gatherings that aim to help connect people with God and with each other, as we explore what it means to be followers of Jesus who lovingly connect with Him and each other and who live purposeful, authentic lives.
What you have read above is just some of what we do. We love helping marriages get off to a great start. And we love supporting a range of community groups to celebrate what is good and to help with their causes. Thats because we want to see our city be blessed in so many ways.
Our heart can be glimpsed in a passage that describes the first ever Christian church. It says that “they … ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.” (Acts 2:46,47).
To be church like that, we need to care not only for each other, but for our local community. That’s the kind of church that Tailrace Community is, and that’s the kind of church that we want to be.
